Speaking of....how do y'all baste your quilts?? I have tried spraying, but pinning is always what I go back to. But lately, I've had issues with my pinned quilts shifting layers while quilting and I have no idea why....I tape the backing taut, use lots of pins, no puckers while pinning, etc. Very frustrating! Suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
Here are my current WIPs:
1. Chicopee spiderweb quilt ~ this one is basted, hoping it doesn't have issues with quilting!!
2. Brrr! quilt ~ top done, needs to be basted, quilted, etc.
3. Branson's Chargers quilt ~ needs to be basted, quilted, etc. Need a MUCH bigger floor for this one, cuz this one is huge.
4. Scrappy trip along ~ needs to be ironed, basted, quilted
5. Single Girl quilt ~ needs to be basted, quilted, etc
6. Love quilt ~ needs to be basted, quilted
7. My newest WIP, Good Folks Supernova ~ needs to be basted, quilted
This last one is my favorite ♥
I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

I'm sure I have that many too ! The spiderweb is gorgeous, as is the supernova. You might need to go to a 'quilt til you wilt' : )
ReplyDeleteI can see why the idea of basting so many would be daunting! I pin, and I think it's just a matter of using more pins (at least that's what I've found when I've run into drags like you're talking about). Love that pixelated/HST <3!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! Love your heart quilt. Sorry can't help with your question as my machine is to small to do quilting on so I send them to someone else to quilt :(
ReplyDeleteLove all your quilt tops but particularly the first one.
ReplyDeleteI used to spray baste but didn't like the smell so have shifted back to pinning. When I start quilting I removed the pins in the area where I am quilting (always starting in the middle) and then use my hands to gently pull either side to get a completely flat surface on which to quilt. Any uneveness always seems to work its way out to the edges.
I like making tops the best too. I have a scrappy trips quilt that I made at least 3-4 years ago that still needs quilted. Once my friend got a long arm machine I quit basting. Sadly, I then moved away from her so I'm back to pinning and spraying.
ReplyDeleteI have a whole slew of flimsies waiting to be quilted, too! I'm a pinner, too - won't use the sprays because of the carcinogens in them. Folks have already mentioned more pins, and keeping the fabric spread flat in the sewing area - another thought - some machines let you play with the pressure of the foot itself. Does yours? If so, that may make a difference for you.
ReplyDeleteThose are some beautiful quilt tops! I'm on my second spray basted quilt. The first one shifted but I decided to give it one more time with more spray. This one is going better, but I don't know that it's that much quicker. I feel like you have to be really careful to make sure there aren't lumps and bumps and then I spent 10 minutes washing my feet because they were all sticky and covered with batting fuzz!
ReplyDeleteOver from wip Wednesday - love all your tops ready to be quilted! That is my most dreaded step as well, and I have one to face right now. Most often I spray baste which gives me the best success with shifting etc. as you mention.
ReplyDeleteThese are some beautiful quilts. I, too have a stack of unfinished quilts. Probably 8 or more and I have a longarm! Can't wait to see you finish these quilts.
ReplyDeleteWow! They all look so great! I cant wait to see them all quilted up!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful situation to be in. A collection of amazing quilt tops ready to go. I look forward to seeing them finished. I have just used spray baste for the first time and like others, I am not sure if it helped. I have been a pinner for years.
ReplyDeleteWowww so many gorgeous quilt tops!! That supernova may be my favorite too, did you come up with the pattern/layout yourself? The colors/fabrics you used are just perfect!
ReplyDeletewow so many quilts and all wonderful. I love them, I think 1 and 3 are my favorite but it is sooo hard to choose :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilts! I love them all! Is there a tutorial around somewhere for the spider web quilt?
ReplyDeleteI love your supanova quilt top!
ReplyDeleteOoh you are a busy lady! Love all these projects.
ReplyDeleteI find pinning a total disaster! I herringbone baste with the quilt on batons for stability. It's not fun to do either, but at least you can sit at a table to do it!
